Justin Fitzgerald Killed in Wood County Pedestrian Accident on US Highway 80

Wood County, Texas (December 30, 2022) – One person was killed Wednesday evening in a pedestrian accident in Wood County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly crash happened around 6:35 p.m., December 28, on US Highway 80, five miles east of Mineola.

DPS said Justin K. Fitzgerald, 30, of Mineola, was fleeing from the police on foot when he ran into the travel lanes of the highway and was struck by a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Jacob C. Batchelder, 30, of Mineola.

Fitzgerald was taken to UT Health Hospital in Tyler, where he was later pronounced dead.

Batchelder was taken to UT Health in Quitman with incapacitating injuries.

The weather was clear, and the road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
