Kaila Riojas Killed in Lubbock Moped Crash on 19th Street

Lubbock, Texas (October 11, 2022) – One person was killed Sunday evening in a moped crash in Lubbock, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 p.m., October 9, in the 4200 block of 19th Street.

Police said Kaila Riojas, 18, was attempting to cross the street in her moped from the northbound to the southbound side when she collided with a westbound pickup truck driven by Landon Newcomb, 21.

Riojas was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries, where she later died.

No other injuries were reported.

The police are investigating the crash.
