Lufkin, Texas (October 3, 2020) – Multiple people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Lufkin, a local news source reported.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m., October 1, at the intersection of Loop 287/Ellen trout Drive and Sayers Street.

According to the report, a Hyundai Sonata was attempting to cross Sayers Street southbound and was T-boned by an eastbound Toyota 4Runner.

The impact caused the Toyota to roll over while the Sonata veered off the roadway, traveled through a tree-line, and crashed into a creek.

Kailyn Walker, 23, of Lufkin, who was a passenger in the Sonata, was trapped in the partially submerged vehicle. She was extricated and was airlifted to UT Health Center in Tyler in extremely critical condition.

The Sonata driver, Marcus Williams, 39, of Lufkin, and one of his backseat passengers, Kendrick Wortham, 26, of Lufkin, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Wortham is Walker’s boyfriend.

Another backseat passenger, Kevin Page, 24, of Lufkin, was checked out at the scene.

The Toyota driver, Terri Wilkie, 38, of Zavalla, was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle. Her mother, Nathalea Conger, 58, of Zavalla, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.

Officers said Williams would be cited for failure to yield the right of way, no insurance, and displaying the wrong plates.

The crash remains under investigation.

We wish Kailyn Walker a quick recovery.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
