Kanyon Alegra Killed in San Patricio County Two-Vehicle Crash on IH-37

San Patricio County, Texas (January 24, 2021) – Six people were killed in a head-on collision early Saturday morning in San Patricio County, a half-mile east of Mathis, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 3:33 a.m., January 23, on IH-37.

DPS said a Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the northbound lane when it crashed head-on into a Dodge Grand Caravan that was traveling northbound in the left lane.

One person was ejected from one of the vehicles.

Trent Ryan Edge, 19, of San Antonio, who was a passenger in the Caravan, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Camry driver, Noam Caleb Ortiz, 19, of Alice, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Three passengers in the Camry, Ruben Gonzalez Jr., 24, of Alice, Julian Reyna, 18, of Alice, and Kanyon Alegra, 18, of Alice, were also pronounced dead at the scene.

Four people were taken to Spohn Shoreline in Corpus Christi for treatment.

Helena Paige-Marie Dumas, 18, of San Antonio, was pronounced dead at Spohn Shoreline Hospital Saturday evening.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
