Karen Scott, Clifford Brooks and Jose Garza Killed in Clay County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 59
Clay County, Texas (March 7, 2019) – Three people were killed, and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on a Clay County highway, according to the DPS.
The fatal crash happened at about 10:30 a.m. March 5, on State Highway 59.
DPS said Karen Lynette Scott, 49, of Bowie, was driving a 2016 Jeep SUV northbound when she failed to drive in a single lane of traffic and drifted to the southbound lanes where he hit a 2018 Ford Expedition.
Scott died at the scene.
Clifford John Brooks, 69, of Stafford, Texas, and Jose Juan Garza, 44, of Houston, who were passengers in the Expedition, were declared dead at the scene.
The Expedition driver and another passenger sustained serious injuries in the crash. One of them was flown to Denton while the other was taken by ground ambulance to Bowie.
The crash remains under investigation.
