Karla Rico Killed in Garland Three-Vehicle Crash at Garland Avenue and Miller Road

Garland, Texas (September 8, 2021) – According to the police, a woman was killed Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Garland.

The fatal crash happened around 3:30 p.m., September 6, at the intersection of Garland Avenue and Miller Road.

Garland police said an officer stopped the driver of a Honda Accord at Shiloh Road and Northwest Highway and found evidence of drugs inside the car.

The Honda driver, Bobby Lee Murphy, 37, sped away from the officer, and the police pursued him but lost him as he drove northbound on Garland Avenue.

Murphy was spotted by another officer near Garland Avenue and Miller Road. He drove through a red light at the intersection and hit a silver Toyota that was traveling westbound on Miller Road. He also hit a black Honda CRV that was traveling southbound on Garland Avenue and was stopped at the red light.

The Toyota driver, 28-year-old Karla Rico, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 10-year-old son was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

A woman who was driving the Honda was treated and released at the scene.

Murphy was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is facing charges in the crash and the chase from police.

The police are conducting the investigation.
