Kaylon Copeland Arrested After Killeen Pedestrian Accident at Chantz Drive and Aspen Drive

Killeen, Texas (May 13, 2021) – The suspect who was involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a 12-year-old injured in January in Killeen has been arrested, according to the police.

Kaylon Trevion Copeland, 23, was arrested on May 6.

The accident happened on January 26, at the intersection of Chantz Drive and Aspen Drive.

Police said the 12-year-old was walking in the crosswalk on Aspen Drive when a westbound Dodge Challenger approached the intersection, failed to yield right of way and hit them.

The Challenger driver fled the scene after the accident.

The victim was taken to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights with minor injuries.

Copeland was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office on May 4, and a complaint was returned charging him with Fail to Stop and Render Aid Causing Bodily Injury. He was arrested on May 6 in Detroit, MI, and was being held at the Wayne County Jail awaiting extradition.

The police are investigating the crash.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statutes which were violated.
