Kedrick Conrad Cox Killed in Houston Multi-Vehicle Crash on North Freeway at Rankin

Houston, Texas (April 13, 2020) – One of the two people who were killed early Friday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Houston has been identified as Kedrick Conrad Cox, according to the medical examiners.

The fatal crash occurred around 1:30 a.m., April 10, on the North Freeway at Rankin.

Police said a Lincoln Navigator towing a trailer was traveling southbound on the freeway when it got a flat tire. The Navigator was occupied by a father, mother and their two children, a 1-year-old and 3-year-old.

The Navigator pulled over to the side of the freeway. A man driving a Mazda then rear-ended the trailer.

The man got out of his Mazda, and so did the mother in the Navigator. Both drivers stood outside their vehicles.

A Chevy Silverado swerved to avoid the crash and hit a wall and spun into the middle lanes of the freeway.

A Chevy Suburban pulled over after the driver saw the crash, and the driver got out to help.

An Amazon delivery truck then crashed into all the vehicles and ran over the drivers who were standing outside their vehicles. The man and woman were killed in the crash. One of the victims has been identified as Cox. The other victim has not been identified.

The driver of the Suburban jumped off the overpass when he saw the Amazon truck coming. He landed at least 10 to 15 feet below and called 911 to report the crash. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The two children in the Navigator were properly restrained. They and a man were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the road was slick at the time of the crash.

The crash closed the freeway for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kedrick Conrad Cox.

Who May Make a Wrongful Death Claim in Texas?

A wrongful death claim for a family member may be brought by spouses, children or parents. The State of Texas also allows the estate of the deceased to bring a survival action to recover for past medical expenses and conscious pain and suffering, as well as other non-economic damages which the deceased may have suffered before death. Texas does not permit brothers, sisters, cousins, or grandparents to assert any claims for the death of a family member.

Wrongful death claims require an attorney who understands the complexity of the damages caused by a significant loss. The lawyer representing the client has the responsibility to hire the necessary experts to help prove the case.
