Kevin Dravenstott Killed, Austin Lewis Seriously Injured in Newton County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 87

Newton County, Texas (February 28, 2020) – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Newton County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:15 p.m., February 25, on Highway 87, north of Trout Creek.

DPS said Austin Lewis, 25, of Kirbyville, was driving a 2011 Nissan pickup northbound on the highway when he crossed the center dividing line and collided with a southbound 2008 Nissan passenger vehicle driven by Kevin Dravenstott, 37, of Kirbyville.

Dravenstott was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lewis was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
