King Reed Severely Injured in Houston Bicycle Accident on Wayside Drive

Houston, Texas (March 10, 2020) – A second-grader Elmore Elementary student was severely injured in a bicycle accident on Wednesday in Houston, according to a GoFundMe page.

The accident happened on March 4th, on Wayside Drive.

According to the report, King Reed was riding a bicycle across the street to the convenience store, where he planned to get his mom, whose blood sugar had dropped, and a candy.

As King finished crossing the street, he was hit by a city truck and another vehicle.

The city truck didn’t stop to render aid.

A passing ambulance transported King to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital with severe injuries, including a broken shoulder, a significant concussion, and bleeding in his stomach and lungs. He lost teeth in half of his mouth and also damaged one of his eye sockets. His face will be permanently disfigured.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

We wish King Reed a quick recovery.

With the surge in popularity of alternate transportation to save on fuel costs, bicycling has emerged as a new form of mobility forced to compete with motorized traffic in dangerous situations. This has resulted in many more accidents between human-powered vehicles and powerful engine-driven machines, producing tragic injuries as well as countless fatalities.
