Lacy Reynolds Killed, Kaitlyn Byrum Injured in San Augustine County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 1277 at SH 103

San Augustine County, Texas (March 24, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Tuesday evening in a head-on collision in San Augustine County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 5:45 p.m., March 23, at the intersection of FM 1277 and SH 103.

DPS said a 2016 Kia passenger car was traveling northbound on FM 1277 while a 2008 GMC SUV was traveling eastbound on SH 103.

The Kia failed to yield right of way and entered into the path of the GMC, resulting in a collision.

The Kia driver, Lacy Reynolds, 18, from Colmesneil, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Kia, Kaitlyn Byrum, 17, of Colmesneil, was airlifted to a Tyler hospital for treatment.

The GMC driver, Joe Worry, 37, of San Augustine, was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin for treatment.

As the authorities were conducting the investigation, an eastbound Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer took evasive action to the right to avoid the initial crash. It drove off the roadway to the right and struck a parked Chevrolet pickup. No one was injured in this second crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
