Lainy Burnett and Brittany Smith ID’d as 2 of 3 People Killed in Robertson County Crash on U.S. Highway 79 near State Highway 6

Robertson County, Texas (September 8, 2022) – Two of the three people who were killed in a head-on crash on Wednesday night near Hearne in Robertson County have been identified as Lainy Burnett, 19, of Emory, and Brittany Smith, 28, of Hearne.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the deadly wreck occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, on U.S. Highway 79 near State Highway 6.

DPS said a 2019 model Jeep, driven by Burnett, was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 79 when, for an unknown reason, the Jeep drifted into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a 2010 Chevrolet, driven by Smith.

Burnett was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith and her 8-year-old passenger also died at the scene.

A 9-year-old girl was taken to the Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

DPS is investigating the accident.
