Ler Htoo and James Mutchler Killed, Aye Htoo Injured in Jackson County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 172

Jackson County, Texas (December 24, 2022) – Two people were killed, and another was injured Wednesday afternoon in a head-on collision in Jackson County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on December 21, on SH 172, south of La Ward.

DPS said Ler Htoo, 19, of Houston, was driving a 2017 Nissan Altima when he crossed over the center line of the highway and crashed head-on into a 2000 Ford F-150 driven by James Mutchler, 67, of Point Comfort.

Both Htoo and Mutchler were pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Altima, Aye Htoo, 20, of Houston, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston in serious but stable condition.

The crash closed a portion of the highway.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
