Louis Smith Dead, Louis Smith Jr. Seriously Injured in Car Crash on SH 36 near Milano

Louis Smith Killed, Louis Smith Jr. Hospitalized after Milano Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 36
Milano, Texas (February 28, 2019) – One person was killed, and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash south of Milano, according to the DPS.
The fatal collision happened at about 4:30 p.m. February 27, on SH 36.
DPS said a 2006 Dodge pickup was traveling southbound on the highway when it slowed and moved to its right onto the improved shoulder. A 2002 Kenworth truck-tractor semi-trailer was heading southbound approaching the Dodge.
The Dodge then made a left turn in front of the truck and was hit on its driver’s side.
The Dodge driver, Louis Smith, 77, of Caldwell, was declared dead at the scene. His passenger, Louis Smith Jr., 46, also of Caldwell was transported to CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver, Carlos Gonzalez, 26, of Miami Beach, was uninjured in the crash.
The highway was shut down for four hours following the crash.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
