Luis Velazquez Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 271 in Camp County

Luis Velazquez Killed in Camp County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 271

Camp County, Texas (December 8, 2021) – A man was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Camp County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 4:45 a.m., December 7, on Highway 271, just north of Pittsburg.

DPS said Edward Salazar, 59, of Kilgore, was driving a semi-truck northbound in the outside lane while Luis Arellano Velazquez, 23, of Hughes Springs, was also driving a car northbound.

Velazquez failed to control his speed and rear-ended the semi-truck.

Velazquez was taken to a Pittsburg hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Salazar was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
