Madison Mangum Killed, Gregory Brooks Injured in Potter County Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 40

Potter County, Texas (March 8, 2023) – One person was killed, and another was injured Monday morning in a multi-vehicle crash in Potter County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 6:30 a.m., March 6, on Interstate 40 east of FM 1912.

Authorities said a 2007 Ford F150 pickup truck was disabled and without power from a previous crash involving a rental truck towing a passenger car. It was facing northbound across the center stripe of westbound I-40.

A 2023 Kenworth T680 truck tractor towing three truck tractors (Drive Away Tow Away) was traveling westbound in the outside lane of the interstate.

The driver of the Tow Away did not see the pickup disabled in the roadway and struck the passenger side of the pickup. Both vehicles came to rest in a field.

The pickup driver, Madison Mangum, 20, of Borger, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Tow Away, identified as Gregory Brooks, 53, of Charleston, West Virginia, was taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital, where he was treated and released. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The crash closed the westbound lanes for several hours, and westbound traffic was re-routed to US 60.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
