Jefferson County, Texas (August 28, 2018) – A 55-year-old Pearland man was killed in traffic accident in Jefferson County Tuesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The deadly accident occurred at around 4:15 a.m. on Interstate 10 near mile marker 838.
According to the DPS reports, a 2003 International truck tractor semi-trailer was heading westbound in a construction area when it was rear-ended by a 2015 Nissan passenger vehicle.
The 55-year-old Pearland man, who was driving the Nissan, was declared dead by Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson at the scene. His name has not been released pending identification and notification of family.
The driver of the semi-trailer, Luis Morejon, 51, of Spring, Texas, was unhurt.
All westbound lanes were shut down. Drivers were diverted off the Interstate onto FM 365.
Drivers heading westbound on Interstate 10 from Orange County were urged to use US-90 as an alternate route.
No other details were immediately provided.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
