Mandy Rollins Killed, James Tullous and Sue Cuevas Injured in Rye Two-Vehicle Crash on SH 146 near FM 787

Liberty County, Texas (December 23, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, a woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Rye, north Liberty County.

The fatal crash happened around 4:00 p.m., December 21, on State Highway 146 near FM 787.

DPS said a Peterbilt tractor-trailer, towing a trailer carrying a bulldozer, was traveling southbound on the highway while a Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling northbound.

The Marquis driver disregarded a stop sign and rear-ended the Peterbilt as it prepared to turn into a private driveway.

Mandy Rollins, 36, of Liberty, was the front seat passenger in the Marquis and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marquis driver, Sue Cuevas, 48, of Liberty, was taken to Kingwood Medical Center with serious injuries. One of his two backseat passengers, 32-year-old James Tullous, was critically injured in the crash. A 10-year-old girl was also in the backseat at the time of the crash.

No other details were provided.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
