Manuel Gonzalez Killed in Jackson County Two-Vehicle Crash at SH 111 and FM 1157

Jackson County, Texas (March 19, 2021) – The man who was killed Wednesday evening in a two-vehicle crash in eastern Jackson County has been identified as Manuel Gonzalez, 72, of Bay City, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 6:00 p.m., March 17, at the intersection of SH 111 and FM 1157.

DPS said a tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on SH 111 approaching the intersection while a Toyota was traveling southbound.

The Toyota failed to yield the right of way at the intersection and hit the rear axle of the semi-truck.

The Toyota became pinned under the wheels and was dragged by the semi-truck for a few hundred yards, and it caught fire.

The Toyota driver, Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two people in the tractor-trailer were uninjured in the crash.

The crash closed the roadway for almost eight hours.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
