Manuel Mendoza Killed in San Antonio Bicycle Accident on Saunders Avenue near South Rosillo Street; Ernest Garay Arrested

San Antonio, Texas (July 8, 2022) – A bicyclist was killed Thursday night in a hit-and-run accident in San Antonio’s West Side, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 10:00 p.m., July 7, on Saunders Avenue near South Rosillo Street.

Police said Manuel Mendoza, 61, was riding his bicycle on Saunders Avenue when 27-year-old Ernest Garay ran a stop sign and hit him.

Mendoza was taken to University Hospital, where he later died.

Garay fled the scene after the accident but was later arrested and is facing a charge of failure to stop and render aid resulting in death.

The police are investigating the crash.
