Marissa July-McCuin Killed in Smith County Pedestrian Accident on SH 64

Marissa July-McCuin ID’d as Pedestrian Killed in Smith County Crash on State Highway 64

Smith County, Texas (April 25, 2022) – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning in Smith County as Marissa July-McCuin, 18.

The deadly crash happened at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, April 24, on State Highway 64 W., approximately two miles from Tyler, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said July-McCuin, a resident of Tyler, was trying to cross the road in the outside lane when, for an unknown reason, an SUV heading westbound hit her.

July-McCuin was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead at about 3:50 a.m.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Justin Pierce, 29, of Tyler, was also transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released.

Pierce was later booked into jail for intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle, and causing an accident involving a death. His bail was set at $500,000.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
