Mark Holmes Hit, Killed While Changing Tire on I-27 near New Deal

Mark Holmes Killed in New Deal Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 27

New Deal, Texas (July 20, 2021) – According to the authorities, a man was hit and killed by a vehicle while changing a tire early Saturday morning, about a half-mile north of New Deal.

The deadly accident happened around 1:27 a.m., July 17, on Interstate 27.

Authorities said Mark Anthony Holmes, 18, of Lubbock, was driving when he had a blowout on the right front tire. He stopped on the shoulder of the roadway, with the left side tires on the fog line.

Holmes was trying to change the tire and walked around to the driver’s side to retrieve something from the vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Douglas Dewayne Rogers, 64, of Lubbock.

Holmes was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock, where he later died.

No other details were provided.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
