Mark Rogers Killed in Abilene Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 36 at Blackburn Road

Abilene, Texas (March 14, 2021) – According to police, one person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Abilene.

The fatal crash happened around 1:05 p.m., March 13, on Highway 36 at Blackburn Road.

Police said a dark Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on the two-lane road and was passing vehicles.

The Dodge tried to pass a pickup truck that was heading in the same direction, but an oncoming vehicle caused it to attempt to get back onto its lane, and it clipped the pickup truck.

The impact caused the pickup truck to veer off the roadway, where it hit a tree before coming to rest in a field. The Dodge also went off the roadway, where it caught fire.

The pickup driver, Mark Rogers, 39, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Jennifer, their 8-year-old son, 10-year-old, and 11-year-old daughters were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Dodge driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
