Marlena Cantu Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident on Minnesota Road near San Juan

34-Year-Old Marlena Cantu Killed in San Juan Two-Vehicle Crash on Minnesota Road

San Juan, Texas (February 3, 2020) – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night near San Juan, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash took place at about 11:37 p.m. February 1, on Minnesota Road between Veterans Road and Raul Longoria Road.

According to a preliminary investigation, Marlena Cantu, 34, of San Juan, was driving a 2014 Ford vehicle westbound on Minnesota Road while Miguel Lopez, 34, of Alamo, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe behind the Ford.

Lopez lost control of the Chevrolet and rear-ended the Ford.

Cantu and a passenger in Ford were taken to McAllen Medical, where Cantu later died. The passenger had minor injuries.

Lopez was taken to DHR with minor injuries. He was later released from the hospital and was taken to the Hidalgo County Jail where he was booked and charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault and two charges of failure to stop and render aid.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
