10-Year-Old Marquez Boy Killed, Solyta Watson and Three Children Seriously Injured in Leon County Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 79 near Nucor Steel Plant

Leon County, Texas (July 7, 2022) – According to the Texas DPS, a 10-year-old boy from Marquez was killed, and four other people, including three children, were injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Leon County.

The fatal crash happened around 12:20 p.m., July 6, on Highway 79, just of Jewett.

DPS said a 2016 Peterbilt Truck Tractor towing a semi-trailer failed to yield the right of way and struck a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500.

The Dodge driver, 33-year-old Solyta Watson, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A 10-year-old boy in the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Two other children in the Dodge, an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old female, were airlifted to Dallas Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. A 7-year-old boy also in the Dodge was airlifted to CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital Bryan with serious injuries.

No other information was available.

The crash remains under investigation.
