Mia Thomas and Lynne Knight Killed, One Passenger Injured in Red Oak Crash on Highway 77 near Free Market Drive

Red Oak, Texas (May 26, 2022) – A t-bone accident has claimed the lives of two drivers Wednesday afternoon at an intersection in Red Oak and left one passenger injured, according to the Red Oak Police Department.

The fatal crash was reported at around 12:52 p.m. on May 25 on Highway 77 near Free Market Drive.

Police said a minivan was traveling westbound on Free Market Drive when it made a left turn onto southbound Highway 77 and was t-boned by a passenger car that was traveling northbound.

The driver of the passenger car, Mia Thomas,17, of Ovilla, was declared dead at the scene.

The minivan driver, Lynne Knight,66, was taken to nearby Baylor Scott and White Waxahachie Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

A juvenile passenger in the minivan sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital in Dallas.

Authorities said failure to yield the right of way played a role on the part of the minivan’s driver. Red Oak police blocked lanes of Highway 77 as they conducted an investigation.

The identities of the deceased victims have not been released pending notification of their respective families.

No further information was available.

The police are investigating the crash.
