Michael Gonzalez Motorcyclist Killed in Fiery Two-Vehicle Crash on South Broadway Avenue in Tyler
Michael Gonzalez Identified as Man Killed in Tyler Motorcycle Accident on South Broadway Avenue near Amherst Street
Tyler, Texas (January 11, 2019) – The motorcyclist who was killed Wednesday night in a traffic crash involving a vehicle in Tyler has been identified as Michael Anthony Gonzalez, 26, according to the Tyler Police Department.
The deadly accident was reported just before midnight Wednesday, January 9 at 3415 South Broadway Avenue near Amherst Street.
According to the report, a motorcycle driven by Gonzalez and a Toyota pickup truck were both traveling southbound on South Broadway Avenue near Leslie’s Pools when Gonzalez stopped or slowed for the red light and was rear-ended by the pickup truck.
The force of the impact caused the pickup truck to slam into a utility pole and burst into flames.
Fire crews responded to the scene and extinguished the burning pickup. They then worked around live electrical lines that were pulled down across the road.
Gonzalez was taken to UT Health- Tyler, where he was declared dead.
Two occupants of the pickup truck sustained unspecified injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Traffic was blocked on Broadway northbound from Winchester for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the crash.
