Michael Matice Killed in San Antonio Bicycle Crash on Weybridge Street and Brandyridge Street

San Antonio, Texas (July 22, 2021) – The bicyclist who was fatally hit by an SUV early Friday morning in San Antonio’s Northwest Side has been identified as Michael Matice,59, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner.

The deadly accident happened just before 1:00 a.m., July 16, at the intersection of Weybridge Street and Brandyridge Street.

Police said Matice was riding his motorized bicycle when he was struck by a white Kia Sorento that was trying to make a turn onto Brandyridge Street.

Matice was taken to University Hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

The Kia driver stopped at the scene after the accident and was found not to be intoxicated.

The police are investigating the crash.

With the surge in popularity of alternate transportation to save on fuel costs, bicycling has emerged as a new form of mobility forced to compete with motorized traffic in dangerous situations. This has resulted in many more accidents between human-powered vehicles and powerful engine-driven machines, producing tragic injuries as well as countless fatalities.
