Michael Wayne Jackson Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on Reed Road

Houston, Texas (December 7, 2021) – The man who was hit and killed by an HPD vehicle Saturday evening in Houston has been identified as Michael Wayne Jackson, 62, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 5:45 p.m., December 4, on Reed Road.

Police said they got a call just before 5:00 p.m., from a woman who said she was robbed at gunpoint at a business in the 7510 block of Bellfort Avenue. She told the officers that several young men had stolen her black Ford truck and her purse. A while later, the woman called the officers back and said her dealership was able to track her truck and told her it was in the 3313 block of Tangerine Street.

The stolen truck was spotted by officers in the 9100 block of Scott Street. The officers turned around to stop the truck, but the driver sped away, and a chase began.

There were five juveniles in the truck, and when the chase came to an end, the suspects jumped out of the truck and fled on foot. Three of them were apprehended and will be charged with aggravated assault.

Near the end of the chase, a westbound HPD unit lost control on Reed Road, left the roadway, and struck Jackson, who was on the sidewalk.

Jackson was killed in the crash.

The officer who hit the man was placed on administrative leave for an unspecified period of time.

An investigation is underway.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michael Wayne Jackson.

Who May Make a Wrongful Death Claim in Texas?

A wrongful death claim for a family member may be brought by spouses, children, or parents. The State of Texas also allows the estate of the deceased to bring a survival action to recover for past medical expenses and conscious pain and suffering, as well as other non-economic damages which the deceased may have suffered before death. Texas does not permit brothers, sisters, cousins, or grandparents to assert any claims for the death of a family member.

Wrongful death claims require an attorney who understands the complexity of the damages caused by a significant loss. The lawyer representing the client has the responsibility to hire the necessary experts to help prove the case.
