Miguel Ortiz Injured in Fatal Crash on Business I-20 in Midland

Miguel Ortiz Hospitalized after Midland Crash on Business Interstate 20

Midland, Texas (May 9, 2022) – Miguel Ortiz, 70, was injured after being involved in a deadly crash early Sunday morning in Midland, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The two-vehicle crash happened at about 12:10 a.m. Sunday, May 8, on Business Interstate 20.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Ortiz was driving a 2007 Silverado pickup truck eastbound in the turning lane of Business Interstate 20 when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was hit by a 2018 Dodge Ram that was traveling westbound.

Silvia Veronica Cortez Chavez, 50, who was Ortiz’s passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ortiz was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The driver of the 2018 Dodge Ram, 53-year-old Mitchell Wade, did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

No further details about the collision were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
