Officer Chase Cormier Injured in Helicopter Crash on Imperial Valley in Houston

Officer Chase Cormier Injured in Houston Helicopter Crash on Imperial Valley near Benmar

Houston, Texas (May 2, 2020) – According to police, a police officer was killed, and another was critically injured early Saturday morning after a Houston police helicopter crashed into a Greenspoint apartment complex in Houston.

The crash happened just before 2:00 a.m. in the 17000 block of Imperial Valley near Benmar.

Police said the helicopter was flying over a bayou where there were reports of bodies in the water when it crashed into a building at the apartment complex.

The pilot and a tactical flight officer aboard the helicopter were airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

The tactical flight officer, Jason Knox, 35, later died. He was married and had two children, a boy, and a girl. His father is Houston City Council Member Mike Knox, a former Houston Police officer.

The pilot, 35-year-old Chase Cormier, underwent surgery.

No one on the ground was injured in the crash.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
