Officer Injured in Conroe Pedestrian Accident on I-45 near Crighton Road; Kayla Nicole Roberts Arrested

Conroe, Texas (December 24, 2020) – A Conroe police officer was struck by an intoxicated driver early Wednesday morning in Conroe, according to police.

The accident occurred around 2:00 a.m., December 23, on I-45 near Crighton Road.

Police said the officer was directing traffic in the main lanes of the interstate. Kayla Nicole Roberts, 32, of Spring, was driving a van northbound when she came up the crash scene, disregarded all emergency vehicles and crashed into a Conroe police vehicle and the officer who was directing traffic.

Roberts fled the scene heading northbound until her vehicle became disabled about a mile away.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor leg injuries.

Roberts was showing signs of intoxication and was arrested. She was combative and uncooperative, and even spit in an officer’s face during the arrest. She was being held on charges of DWI, failure to stop and render aid and harassment of a public servant.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct.

If you have been injured because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a  personal injury action against the drunk driver.
