Officer Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on I-35 in Von Ormy

Officer Injured in Von Ormy Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 35

Von Ormy, Texas (March 21, 2021) – A Von Ormy police officer was injured early Saturday morning in a wrong-way crash in Von Ormy, according to police.

The crash happened just before 3:00 a.m., March 20, on Interstate 35.

Police said the officer was driving southbound on the interstate when he came over a hill and crashed head-on into a red SUV that was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.

The impact caused the police car to catch fire.

The SUV driver fled the scene after the crash.

The officer was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries but in stable condition.

The crash closed the interstate at New Laredo Highway.

The police are investigating the crash.
