One Killed in Plane Crash on U.S. Highway 80 in Kaufman County

Person Killed in Kaufman County Plane Crash on U.S. Highway 80 near Dallas County Line

Kaufman County, Texas (March 30, 2020) – One person was killed Sunday afternoon in a plane crash near the Kaufman-Dallas County line, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened at about 3:20 p.m. March 29, in the 15000 block of U.S. Highway 80.

FAA said a single-engine P-51D Mustang crashed after taking off from Mesquite Municipal Airport.

According to witnesses, the plane, a home-built replica of an old fighter plane, took a nosedive.

The wreckage was located in the area of Lawson Road and East Scyene Road, which is located adjacent to the Mesquite Municipal Airport.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, was killed in the crash. Their identity has not been released.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.
