Oneida Guerra Killed in Starr County Pedestrian Accident on U.S. Highway 83 near Escobares

Starr County, Texas (March 9, 2020) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian accident Saturday afternoon in Starr County, just east of Escobares, according to the DPS.

The deadly accident happened at about 1:25 p.m. March 7, on U.S. Highway 83 at mile marker 812.

According to a preliminary investigation, Adalberto Barron, 18, was driving a brown Chevrolet pickup when he drove off the roadway and hit a white Nissan Sentra that was exiting a driveway. The Chevrolet continued traveling until it hit a fence and two pedestrians who were standing outside a silver Buick SUV.

Oneida Guerra, 68, of Roma, who was one of the pedestrians, was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Barron was arrested and booked into Starr County jail on a charge of manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities believe Barron was on his phone at the time of the accident.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
