Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Intoxicated Driver on Northwest Highway in Dallas

One Killed in Dallas Pedestrian Accident on Northwest Highway at Starlight Road

Dallas, Texas (June 6, 2021) – A pedestrian was fatally hit by an intoxicated driver Friday night in Dallas, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 9:07 p.m., June 4, in the area of W Northwest Highway and Starlight Road.

Police said a 59-year-old man was driving westbound on Northwest Highway when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a person who was sitting on the median.

After hitting the person, the vehicle struck a Kenworth Box truck that was stopped at the light.

The pedestrian became wedged beneath the suspect’s vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was then booked into the Dallas County Jail on an intoxication manslaughter charge.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.
