Peyton Lewis Killed, Lonnie Lewis and Pedro Weibe Injured in Andrews County Four-Vehicle Crash on FM 1788

Andrews County, Texas (February 20, 2022) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Friday evening in a four-vehicle crash in Andrews County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash was reported around 6:45 p.m., February 18, on Farm-to-Market Road 1788, 22 miles south of Andrews.

DPS said a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Ford F-250 pickup were traveling southbound on the highway while a Kenworth semi-truck was traveling northbound.

A Chevrolet 3500 pickup with a trailer had pulled off the roadway and parked at a gated entrance to a lease road.

The Silverado went over into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into the semi-truck. The semi-truck then struck the parked Chevrolet 3500.

The Ford swerved to avoid the crash, but it rolled over into a bar ditch adjacent to the highway.

The Silverado driver, Peyton Michael Lewis, 22, of Seagraves, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Silverado, Lonnie Michael Lewis, 59, of Seagraves, was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock in serious condition.

The Ford driver, Pedro Sawatzky Weibe, 39, of Seminole, was taken to Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews for treatment.

The semi-truck driver and the driver of the Chevrolet 3500 were uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
