Phillips Gardner Killed in Harris County Pedestrian Accident on North Freeway

Harris County, Texas (February 18, 2023) – A father of six was killed Tuesday evening in a pedestrian accident in Harris County, according to the deputies.

The deadly accident happened around 8:25 p.m., February 14, on the North Freeway.

Deputies said Phillips Gardner and his wife, Tegan Gardner, were on the way back from their nephew’s birthday party, and they went to the 14100 block of the freeway because Tegan’s mother’s vehicle had stalled out on the northbound right shoulder.

Phillips hopped over the concrete barrier wall and crossed the freeway service road to go to the Shell gas station nearby to purchase something as they waited for a tow truck. As he was walking back across the service road to return to his family, he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and was not intoxicated. She was uninjured in the crash and cooperated with the investigators.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
