54-Year-Old Richard Phillips Killed in Harrison County Motorcycle Accident at FM 1999 and FM 9

Harrison County, Texas (May 1, 2020) – According to the DPS, two people, who were riding on a motorcycle, were killed Thursday night in a three-vehicle crash in Harrison County.

The crash was reported around 9:40 p.m. April 30, at the intersection of FM 1999 and FM 9.

DPS said Jeffery Mac Martin, 52, of Waskom, along with his passenger, Lonnie Martin, 53, of Karnack, was heading northbound on FM 9 in a pickup truck while a motorcycle ridden by Richard Phillips, 54, of Shreveport, was heading eastbound on FM 1999.

Jeffery drove onto FM 1999 and failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.

The motorcycle then struck the driver’s side door of the pickup.

The impact ejected Phillips and his passenger, Melanie Hubbard, 48, of Shreveport, from the motorcycle.

Another vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Hannah Marter of Ashley, Arkansas, was heading westbound on FM 1999 and struck Phillips and Hubbard.

Hubbard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Phillips was taken to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, where he later died.

Jeffery and Lonnie were treated and released at the scene.

Marter was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
