Rigoberto Ochoa Gonzalez ID’d as Worker Killed in Rosenberg Industrial Accident on FM 2218 near Bryan Road

Rosenberg, Texas (February 14, 2020) – The worker who was killed in an industrial accident Wednesday afternoon in Rosenberg has been identified as 32-year-old Rigoberto Ochoa Gonzalez, of Houston, according to the authorities.

The accident was reported around 1:00 p.m. on February 12, on FM 2218 near Bryan Road.

Authorities said Gonzalez and two other workers were laying lines in the 8-foot-deep trench when the trench collapsed, trapping Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to local media reports, there did not appear to be a trench box to support the work area, which would normally be used as a safety measure.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the incident.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Rigoberto Ochoa Gonzalez.

“Texas has been the scene of some of the world’s most shocking industrial accidents in the past 25 years,” Joel A. Gordon, an experienced industrial accident lawyer, said. In the great majority of the cases, gross negligence on the part of the employer bears full responsibility,” he added. Numerous OSHA violations, fines and deficiencies stand as proven evidence that employers repeatedly disregard the importance of worker safety by ignoring needs for proper equipment maintenance, employee protections around dangerous work conditions, and vigilance about employee health concerns or symptoms while working within unsafe circumstances.
