Robert Hernandez Killed and Jennifer Ruddell Injured in Dallam County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 287

Dallam County, Texas (August 5, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured Tuesday morning in a head-on collision in Dallam County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened around 5:30 a.m., August 3, on US 287, 12 miles northwest of Stratford.

DPS said Jennifer Ruddell, 44, of Seagoville, Texas, was driving a 2015 Peterbilt truck tractor/semi-trailer northbound on the highway while Robert Hernandez, 42, of Novi, Michigan, was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu southbound.

For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet drifted across the center line into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into the semi-trailer.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ruddell was taken to Dumas with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
