Robert Leighty Killed in Wheeler County Motorcycle Accident on Interstate 40
Wheeler County, Texas (September 14, 2019) – A man was killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday night near Shamrock, according to a local news release.
The accident took place around 11:10 p.m. September 12, on I-40.
DPS said Jarmanjit Singh, 37, of California, was driving a semi-truck eastbound in the right lane on eastbound I-40 while Robert Leighty, 59, of Ohio, was riding a motorcycle in the right lane on I-40 in front of the semi.
Leighty veered over into the left lane and was hit by the semi.
The semi came to a rest in the center median with the motorcycle underneath it.
Leighty was taken to a Shamrock hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.
An investigation is underway.
