Rodrigo Villarreal Killed in San Benito Bicycle Accident on FM 732 near US 281; Antonio Saenz Arrested

San Benito, Texas – A man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a bicycle accident in San Benito, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 1:16 p.m., January 3, on Farm-to-Market Road 732 north of U.S. Highway 281.

Authorities said Rodrigo Villarreal, 59, of San Benito, was riding his bicycle northbound when he was rear-ended by a man driving a Honda Civic.

The impact caused Villarreal to go airborne and land on the windshield of the Honda. He was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen where he later died.

The Honda driver, Antonio Rogelio Saenz Jr., 23, was arrested on Tuesday, January 23, on a charge of criminal negligence homicide. He was booked into the Cameron County Detention Center.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
