Ronald Lewis Killed, Juan Castillo and Kathy Thompson Injured in Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash at 50th Street and Avenue A

Lubbock, Texas (December 11, 2021) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Thursday evening in a two-vehicle crash in Lubbock, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 7:43 p.m., December 9, at the intersection of 50th Street and Avenue A.

Police said Ronald Lewis, 40, was driving a Toyota Camry westbound in the 100 block of E. 50th Street approaching Avenue while Juan Castillo, 23, was driving a Cadillac SRX eastbound in the 100 block of 50th Street and was preparing to turn northbound onto Avenue A.

The vehicles then collided at the intersection.

The impact caused the Toyota to roll over and hit a signal light pole.

Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathy Thompson, 38, who was a passenger in the Camry, was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Castillo was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
