13-Year-Old Rosalin Rodriguez ID’d as Teen Killed in Littlefield Crash at East Loop 430 and U.S. Highway 84

Littlefield, Texas (July 21, 2022) – Authorities have identified the teen who was killed along with a woman Wednesday morning in a crash outside of Littlefield as Rosalin Rodriguez, 13.

According to the Littlefield Police Department, the collision between a car and a semi-truck occurred at the intersection of East Loop 430 and U.S. Highway 84 on July 20.

Police said a Silver 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of East Loop 430 and the westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 84 and was facing southbound.

The Jeep failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic and pulled out into the path of a loaded 2014 Peterbilt Bobtail truck. The truck ultimately hit the Jeep on its driver’s side.

The Jeep driver, Carmen Rodriguez, 30, of Abilene, was pronounced dead at the scene. Rosalin Rodriguez, who was a passenger in the right front seat of the Jeep, also died at the scene.

A 5-year-old boy who was sitting on an approved safety seat in the left back seat of the car sustained a broken leg and head injuries. He was transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, where he underwent surgery.

The two-month-old infant girl was sitting in an approved safety device in the right rear seat of the car and was uninjured.

The truck driver, Danny Clawson, 67, of Lubbock, sustained minor injuries to his arm but declined medical aid at the scene.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
