Samuel Stephen Lawrence Killed in Upshur County Pedestrian Accident on US 80

Upshur County, Texas (October 14, 2020) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident Monday evening in Upshur County, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened around 7:25 p.m., October 12, on US 80, four miles west of the City of Gladewater.

Authorities said Wesley Melvin Allen, 60, of Hawkins, was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 westbound on the highway when he passed over the top of a hill and struck Samuel Stephen Lawrence, 50, of Alexandria, Louisiana, who was walking in the middle of the westbound lane of travel.

Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allen was uninjured in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
