Santiago Serbin Killed and James Barrett Injured in Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 2378

Lubbock, Texas (December 26, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash about four miles southwest of Lubbock, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:40 p.m., December 21, on FM 2378.

DPS said 68-year-old Santiago Serbin, Jr. of Shallowater, was driving on the wrong side of the roadway while a 2019 Silverado HD driven by 40-year-old James Edwin Barrett of Shallowater approached.

Barrett steered to the right to avoid the collision, but the vehicles collided.

Serbin was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Barrett, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
