Sergeant Ramon Gutierrez Killed in Houston Pedestrian Accident on East Sam Houston Parkway North; Lavillia Spry Arrested

Harris County, Texas (January 24, 2022) – An off-duty sheriff’s sergeant was killed Monday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Houston, according to the deputies.

The deadly accident happened shortly after midnight on East Sam Houston Parkway North.

Deputies said Ramon Gutierrez, 45, was working traffic control for a convoy of oversized machinery on the highway when he was struck by a vehicle.

Gutierrez was airlifted to the hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the vehicle, Lavillia Spry, 40, fled the scene after the accident. Shee was located shortly and taken into custody. She has been charged with intoxication manslaughter, failure to stop and render aid, and evading arrest.

Gutierrez was a 20-year veteran with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and worked with the Vehicular Crimes Division for the last 13 years.

An investigation is underway.
