Shawna Kay Injured in Newton County Multi-Vehicle Crash on TX 63

Newton County, Texas (March 2, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, one person was injured on Monday in a multi-vehicle crash in Newton County, just west of the Texas-Louisiana state line.

The crash occurred on March 1, on TX 63.

Troopers said a mail carrier was driving a 2016 Jeep was traveling eastbound on the highway while a 2016 Mazda sedan was traveling behind them. A Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer towing a crane lift was traveling westbound on the highway.

The mail carrier driving the Jeep slowed down to turn left and was rear-ended by the Mazda sedan. The impact pushed the Jeep into the westbound lanes and into the path of the 18-wheeler, resulting in a collision.

The Jeep was pushed into the ditch while the 18-wheeler jackknifed in the middle of the roadway after the crash.

The Jeep driver, Shawna Kay, 48, of Burkeville, was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.

The Mazda sedan and the 18-wheeler drivers were uninjured in the crash.

The crash closed all the eastbound and westbound traffic lanes of the highway.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
