Thelbert Thompson and Ricky Daniel Killed in Van Zandt County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 64

Van Zandt County, Texas (October 20, 2022) – Two drivers were killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Van Zandt County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened just after noon, October 19, on State Highway 64, just outside Canton.

DPS said Ricky Daniel, 42, of Canton, was driving westbound on the highway while Thelbert Thompson, 89, of Canton, was driving eastbound.

For unknown reasons, Daniel drove into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into Thompson’s vehicle.

Daniel was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital in Canton.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
